ℹ️ This tool is available to all users.
The Sweep tool is a type of extrusion tool. Unlike the Extrude tool, though, you can guide the extrusion of a profile along a custom line or spine through multiple planes. You can create complex bodies such as pipe systems, cables, wires, etc., with a simple 2D shape and a spine in a controlled environment.
- Draw a closed sketch.
- Draw a line, arc, or spline from the center of the closed sketch to create the spine of the 3D body you want to create.
-
Go to Tools > Sweep.
- Select the filling of the closed sketch.
- Select Next.
- Select the spine. If you have multiple spines, you can select them, too, as long as they are connected.
-
Select Done.
💡Shortcut💡: If you select the filling of the closed sketch and the spine first, the menu is customized automatically. From this adaptive menu, go to Menu > Sweep. When you’re done, select Done.
It is possible to use the Loft tool to create a similar body, but if each cross section of the body you want to create is uniform, then the Sweep tool is a quicker method.
