First things first: There are 10 different types of dimensions you can add to your drawing.
Dimension type |
Description |
|
|
Line |
Measures the length of a straight line. |
|
Point-to-Point |
Measures the distance between two selected points. These points can be endpoints, intersections, quadrant points, and center marks. |
|
Point-to-Line |
Measures the distance between any point and a line. These points can be endpoints, intersections, quadrant points, and center marks. |
|
Line-to-Line |
Measures the distance between two parallel lines. |
|
Arc Angle |
Measures the included angle of an arc. |
|
3-Point Angle |
Measures the inner or outer angle between two virtual lines defined by one joint vertex and two other points on the legs. These points can be endpoints, intersections, quadrant points, or center marks. |
|
Line-to-Line Angle |
Measures the angle between two non-parallel lines. |
|
Radius |
Measures the distance between an arc or circle’s circumference and center. |
|
Diameter |
Measures the length of a line that would cross a circle or arc’s center and two points on the shape’s circumference. |
|
Min-Max Distance |
Measures the minimum or maximum distance between a circle or arc and another circle, arc, or line. Curves that are not part of a section of a virtual circle or arc are not included. |
You can add dimensions in just a few steps:
-
Click Dimensions in the drawings menu.
- Select a dimensioning tool.
-
Select the items that need to be dimensioned.
Note: The dimensions in the design space are rounded to 3 decimal places, while dimensions in the drawing sheet are rounded to 2 decimal places.
- Click Done.
- If you want to reposition the dimension on the sheet, you can drag and drop the selection badge anywhere on the sheet.
Or, you can select the Dimension badge, and then the Alignment badge. A popover will appear, and you can specify how you want the annotation to be aligned: Absolute, Vertical, or Horizontal. -
If you want to remove a dimension, select its Dimension badge and then Delete, or press the Backspace or Delete key.
💡Shortcut💡: You can directly select a line, curve, or any other item in your drawing. The app will automatically dimension the item and you can confirm it by selecting the check mark or pressing the Return key.
If you select items in a view, the menu is customized automatically. From this adaptive menu, you can select the appropriate tool to instantly dimension the selected items. If there is only one dimension possible, the dimension is automatically applied.
You can specify the decimal precision level of linear and angular dimensions in Drawing Preferences.
