If you want to transfer 2D drawings between AutoCad or other CAD software and Shapr3D, you need to make sure the drawings are in either DWG or DXF format, the two most common 2D CAD formats.
Follow the steps below to import 2D drawings into Shapr3D, so you can freely modify your sketches on your iPad.
- Export your 2D drawings from your CAD software in DWG or DXF format.
- Import the DWG or DXF file into Shapr3D.
- If you want to use AirDrop on your Mac, drag the file to your iPad in the AirDrop folder. When a dialog appears (with “Open with…”), select Shapr3D on your iPad.
- If you want to use cloud storage apps or other apps, follow these steps.
A new project containing the imported drawings is saved in Shapr3D. - Turn on the Auto-Constraint switch to have perpendicular, horizontal, and tangent constraints applied to the imported drawing.
This drawing is from https://dwgmodels.com/. - Select Done.
- Open the Items menu and hide unnecessary items so your drawing is decluttered.
When you’re done sketching, you can also export your Shapr3D drawings in DWG or DXF format.
Note that not all geometry in folders is supported in Shapr3D if the DXF or DWG file has 3D elements, the geometry is corrupted, or the folder is empty.
