ℹ️ All users can use the 3D Viewer app to see their Shapr3D designs in augmented reality view.
Export your design's virtual prototype from Shapr3D in STL or 3MF format and get a real-time visualization of how your design will look in situ with Microsoft's 3D Viewer app.
3D Viewer is a free app that runs on Windows 10 or higher; all you need is a Windows device with a rear-facing camera. For more details on the app, check out All3DP's guide.
All users can export their Shapr3D designs in STL or 3MF format, but only Standard and Business users can export their designs in high resolution and therefore see their models in high-quality augmented reality view.
Follow these steps to visualize your design:
- Open your design in Shapr3D.
-
Select the three dots at the top right corner and then Export.
The Save As dialog will appear. -
Select "3MF file" or "STL file" in the Save as type: field.
Edit the file name and location if necessary.Note that color in 3MF and STL export will be supported in a future release. Until then, the model will be monochrome.
- Click Save.
- Open 3D Viewer.
- Go to File > Open and open the file you exported.
-
Switch on the Mixed reality toggle in the top right.
- Aim your device's camera to a setting in which you want to visualize your model and tap or click the screen to place your model.
-
Using your fingers, pen, or mouse, fine-tune the model's position and size so it fits better in your environment.
You can go to Quick Animations at the bottom right and select an animation method, such as "Turntable," to see the model in movement.
This kind of visualization provides great feedback on different design aspects, from dimensions to aesthetics, giving you more insight into your prototype design at any point in your workflow. If you see something that could be tweaked or doesn’t quite match up with what you imagined, just close 3D Viewer and go back to the drawing board in Shapr3D.
