Extrusion is the basic way to create a body from a face or a closed sketch. Essentially, you’re pushing or pulling the face or sketch filling to extrude manually—using the pen, mouse, or touchpad. You can also offset a body as well, so the face and its attached features are extruded together.
When you extrude, you can adjust your final body with these parameters:
- Length
-
Draft angle
This is the amount of taper on your body.
You can do a basic extrusion in several steps:
- Draw a closed sketch and switch to 3D view.
-
Go to Tools > Extrude.
- Select the filling.
- Adjust the arrow to add height, which is the length of extrusion. To specify the length, select the dimension label and add a value to the numpad.
If you have a keyboard connected to your device, you can hover over the dimension label, type in the exact value, and press the Enter key to finalize the dimension. - Adjust the rotation arrow to add a draft angle. To specify the angle, select the dimension label and add a value to the numpad.
If you have a keyboard connected to your device, you can hover over the dimension label, type in the exact value, and press the Enter key to finalize the dimension. -
Select Done.
💡Shortcut💡: If you select the sketch filling first, the menu is customized automatically. From this adaptive menu, go to Extrude. When you’re done adjusting the 3D body, select the empty space to exit the tool.
