You can import rasterized images into your designs to use as a reference when you model or sketch. To check compatible formats, refer to: Supported file types.

To import an image on an iPad, use the following steps:
- Access the Import or Image tool using one of these options:
- Select Import from the Shapr3D home screen.
- Select Import from the Top bar of the design space.
- Go to Add > Image or File.
- Select the method for importing the image from the Image Import dialog. Options include:
- Select the Files app to select an existing file from the iPad or iCloud.
- Select the Photos app to select an existing photo from the photo gallery.
- Select the Camera app to take a new photo with the iPad's camera.
- Select the image or take a new photo.
- Position the image in your view using the gizmo.
- Optional: Adjust the Opacity of the image using the slider at the top left.
- Select Done.
To import an image on a Mac, use the following steps:
- Access the Import or Image tool using one of these options:
- Select File > Import.
- Select Import from the title bar.
- Go to Add > Image or File.
- Select the image file from the Import dialog.
- Position the image in your view using the gizmo.
- Optional: Adjust the Opacity of the image using the slider at the top left.
- Select Done.
You can also drag and drop an image file onto the Shapr3D icon in the dock. If you use this method, you will be presented with the dialog shown below to select how to import the image.
NOTE: If you want to import images from the Photos app, you may need to allow Shapr3D access to the photos on your device. You can grant access in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
To import an image on a Windows PC, use the following steps:
- Access the Import tool using one of these options:
- Select Import from the Shapr3D home screen.
- Go to More (...) > Import at the top right corner of the design space.
- Use the Open dialog to select an image file.
- Position the image in your view using the gizmo.
- Optional: Adjust the Opacity of the image using the slider at the top left.
- Select Done.
Once an image is imported, you can use the Move/Rotate or Translate tools to reposition the image.
