If you have 2D and 3D files that you want to view or modify in Shapr3D, you can directly import them into your design space. To check compatible formats, refer to Supported file types.
Expand the sections below for information on importing files on a specific platform.

Note: If you want to import images from the Photos app, you may need to allow Shapr3D access to the photos on your device. You can grant access in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
To import a file on a Windows device, follow these steps:
- Access the Import tool using one of these options:
- Select Import from the Shapr3D Dashboard.
- Go to More (...) > Import at the top right corner of the design space.
- Use the Open dialog to select a file.

- Select Done.
Once a file is imported, you can use the Move/Rotate or Translate tools to reposition the file.
The source file you’ve imported will appear as a new item or item folder in your design space’s Items manager. If you imported a 3D model in STEP format, the hierarchical structure of the source model is retained in Shapr3D; so, the bodies that were grouped together in the same unit (assemblies, parts, components, etc.) are organized into nested folders in the Items manager.
If you’re importing 3D models, make sure that your source file is not damaged or corrupt and your device has enough memory to process the import. The file should contain 3D geometry and the source model should fit the available design space in Shapr3D: 1 km3.
