Constraints overview

Constraints are geometric rules that define the relationship between sketch elements on the same plane. They allow you to "lock" your design intent, ensuring that your sketches remain predictable and precise when you make modifications.

Introduction to constraints

In Shapr3D, Constraints icon-generic-settings-win.png  provide control over how sketch elements respond to changes. By defining specific behaviors—such as making two lines parallel or a line tangent to a circle—you dictate the logic of your geometry.

For example, applying a Horizontal/Vertical constraint to a line ensures it stays aligned with the sketch axes, even if the connected parts of the model are moved or resized.

When working in a sketch, the constraints menu automatically highlights valid options based on your selected elements. You can apply these manually or enable Constraint Settings to have the app automatically create them for you as you draw.

To learn about the different constraint types, visit the Constraints menu section.
