Working with OnShape and Shapr3D

OnShape is a cloud-based CAD software that offers powerful tools for 3D modeling, collaboration, and data management, allowing you to work on your designs from anywhere with an internet connection. Use OnShape with Shapr3D to combine the cloud capabilities of OnShape with the intuitive modeling features of Shapr3D.

Why use OnShape with Shapr3D?

  • Enhanced collaboration: Work across devices integrating Shapr3D and OnShape seamlessly—no file conversion needed. Concept and review in Shapr3D and then pick back up in OnShape in your office to finalize your design.
  • Flexibility and portability: Freely work from anywhere across the Shapr3D ecosystem supported by instant design sync across devices. Start on desktop and iterate on iPad on-site. Then immersively review on the Vision Pro, editing digital prototypes in stunning detail for confident product decisions on the spot.
  • Simplified workflows: Create multiple diverse iterations in a fraction of the time; then seamlessly import to OnShape for refinement.

Importing part and assembly files to Shapr3D

Shapr3D treats imported assembly files as separate individual parts listed under Items within the same project, rather than as a constrained assembly. You can modify and refine each part independently within Shapr3D with the option to export each part separately, then reassemble it in your CAD software if maintaining the original structure is necessary.

How to use OnShape with Shapr3D

Step 1: Export from OnShape

    1. Open your model in OnShape.
    2. Export parts to supported file formats such as .x_t, .step or choose other file formats compatible with Shapr3D.
    3. Save the file to your preferred location.

Important

Features, steps, or design history recorded in OnShape will not carry over when imported into Shapr3D.

Step 2: Import into Shapr3D

    1. Open Shapr3D.
    2. Import your project into Shapr3D.

Step 3: Editing and collaborating in Shapr3D

    • Use all of Shapr3D’s intuitive interface and robust set of modeling tools to easily modify, adjust, or improve your imported part.
Note: If you’re new to Shapr3D, get a quick start from our video tutorials or visit the Shapr3D Manual.
    • Leverage the multidevice functionality to instantly access your files across all your devices, allowing you to seamlessly continue your work whether you’re on an iPadOS, macOS, or Windows device.
    • Take advantage of Vision Pro integration to host immersive AR sessions, allowing for interactive collaboration and dynamic product design reviews.

Important

New design history and steps recorded in Shapr3D will not carry over when you import your project back into OnShape.

Step 4: Export from Shapr3D

    1. Once the modifications in Shapr3D are complete, export your part.
    2. You can save parts as .x_t and .step files, or choose other file formats compatible with Shapr3D.
    3. Save the file to your preferred location.

Step 5: Import back to OnShape
